Is there a way to not autoplay videos in iPhone's apps and Safari?

It’s quite annoying in Safari, IMDb, and many other apps. I will play manually when ready. Don’t autoplay for me especially when I am out with my limited cellular connection!

This tip seems to work:

Bizarre that it is a setting deep within the Accessibility settings.

That didn’t work when I tried IMDb’s app with a searched movie like “One Life”. It started autoplaying by itself after a few seconds.

I think you will need to find the iMDB app within the Accessibility settings, instead of Safari. Below I have added Binge to the list.

I added both Safari and IMDb and still see the same autoplay issue. Did you try IMDb app on your end? You just need to install this app, search a movie (e.g., “One Life”), click on that movie, and wait a few seconds.

I don’t use the IMDb app so just added Binge to the Per-app list as an example. However I didn’t test it with autoplay (I let my subscription lapse).

There was a recent discussion about this.

For Safari, StopTheMadness extension does the best job I’ve seen. However, I don’t know of a way in apps; sometimes apps have a setting for this.

In iOS 17, a global setting to turn off “Auto-Play Video Previews” is in Accessibility > Motion.

That doesn’t help for me. Still see videos autoplay. :(

Thank you. But I’ll never find it again. (I did turn off the global auto-play that @bob_stern mentioned; thank you @bob_stern.)
