What are your Time Machine settings?

I assume that the Time Machine settings do not indicate that a automated backup failed due to the drive being unavailable

There are no error messages visible in the GUI. I think I have checked Console in the past and didn’t see any relevant messages there, either.

Also, I do have it set to backup Automatically every hour, not “Manually”. And when I do run it manually, it usually succeeds just fine. All this suggests that it’s not even trying to run on the Automatic schedule that is configured. I did try changing to Manual and then back to Automatic, but that didn’t help.

If you happen to know which of the many plist files to delete to fix this, I’d love to know. But maybe I’ll just try TimeMachineEditor.

My Time Machine is set to run every hour between 7 am and 9 pm. I don’t see any reason to run it while I’m not using the computer.
