Strange behavior from BusyCal or is it something else?

I’ve been using BusyCal for many years. Over recent months I’ve noticed something odd. I don’t recall when this started happening. I was searching for a file using HoudahSpot and it turned up three copies of the file:

The file I was looking for is here:

(home)/Downloads/ JSTOR-SIAJ/40968837-Industrial Heritage Commemoration in the Canadian Parks Service-Part I-Robert W. Passfield.pdf

But there were two other copies located in these places:

(home)/Users/tmeadow/Library/Group Containers/N4RA379GBW.com.busymac.busycal3/Data/Attachments/Downloads-2F0DD077-1E19-4956-B166-C909CFF3BA2D/ JSTOR-SIAJ/

(home)/Users/tmeadow/Library/Containers/com.busymac.busycal3/Data/Library/Application Support/BusyCal/Attachments/Downloads-2F0DD077-1E19-4956-B166-C909CFF3BA2D/ JSTOR-SIAJ/

According to the Finder (ha!) claims that this last folder is 583GB in size!

I contacted BusyMac support about this and got this response:

I have no idea what these are to be honest - That folder only contains attachments BusyCal found in your Events and downloaded those over time. You should be able to delete them if you don't expect them, the only thing that'll go wrong is that any attachment within an event that links to this file won't open, but that's fine given those are huge files and probably unexpected.

I’m not seeing similar duplicates that are associated with any other apps when I search for files.

Does anyone have any suggestions about what these files are (are they aliases or real files?) and why they exist? Can I just delete them?

Hmm, I do have folders with containing “N4RA379GBW …” but these are empty or contain just a few MB.

In your case: Which file(s) are so huge in these folder?
