Shutdown Anomaly On MBPro M4: Is This A Bug?

I have noticed more than a few times, booting up my 2024 MBPro M4 system to the battery icon. Sometimes I chalk it up to … oh, maybe I fell asleep leaving it on or such. But I also have observed this phenomenon:

After shutting off the laptop, then attending to this or that elsewhere, I come back to close the lid and put the computer away. Lo and Behold just after the lid is shut, then I hear the start-up chime … with the lid closed. While I don’t know the details, I believe Apple has engineered some pretty sensitve sensors for for detection of voltage blips to trigger a presumed start up protocol … usually for when opening the lid, I would have thought … pretty sure this is the culprit for booting up to a drained battery … not just cuz I was watching SciFi into the weee hours

Anyone else notice this?

I haven’t encountered this, but I’ve also disabled the automatic power-on when the lid opens “feature” on my M3 MBP. You could try that (even if only temporarily) to test your theory; see this Apple support article for instructions.
