Usually I don’t turn off my MBP. But did earlier yesterday before packing my MBP M1 before my voyage back to Japan.
When I turned it on I was please to see most windows restoring themselves. But then Chrome beachballed. And then Firefox. And then Mail. And when I went to the force quit panel that also beachballed.
I was about to force the MBP to restart, but then the beachballing stopped.
Any idea what that was about?
Now that I’m back, I may try upgrading to macOS 27!
Something fundamental was blocking, causing UI events to be delayed, hence the beachballing.
Given that it happened after a big relocation, while restoring apps, and seems to be temporary, I’m guessuing that all these apps were restoring their state and were trying to re-establish network connections. Since your network setting had completely changed (new network, new router, probably new DNS server), all those apps timed out trying to re-establish network connections that no longer work. Then after timing out, they probably re-resolved all of the DNS entries with your new network’s server, and then things started working normally.
Good a guess as any! I guess it must have been something like that. Now it’s morning, and all it still ok. And the MBP is actually cool to the touch. Lately it seems to get warm.
