Recently my system seems to hiccup or freeze for a number of seconds every few minutes, sometimes showing the spinning color wheel, sometimes just a frozen cursor and no input accepted, a sort of brain freeze. Then it comes back as if nothing had happened. This may have started after installing the latest MacOS update, but I’m not really sure about that. Certainly it is quite recent. Doesn’t seem to matter what application I’m using. I thought it might have to do with a flakey internet connection but continues whether internet is on (WiFi) or not. So, I’ve tried:
rebooting, logging out/in, creating a new user account
starting with all apps closed and adding one at a time
ejecting all external disks
That’s all I could think of to trouble shoot short of wiping the OS and reinstalling, none of these solved the issue.
Curious how this may come out… for the past month or two I have had this odd behavior. I am looking at the screen, most time not doing anything active and the whole screen goes to black. Never lasts more than 2-3 seconds, only has happened about 3-4 times in the past 2 months. Odd.
Funny. I’ve run into this a few times in the last few days. It almost feels like a DNS problem. I’ve also noticed a few glitches with Adobe apps suddenly not being able to find update servers and a few other similar issues with other apps. I’m going to try flushing the DNS cache and restarting to see if that helps.
OP here. Safe mode seems to have solved the hiccups. Rebooted in Normal mode and whatever booting in Safe mode did seems to have worked when rebooting in Normal mode.
