MacBook Air M1 keyboard failure

What started out as just one lousy key not working—the 2—has spread. Now it’s also the F2, W, S and X keys. Plus Tab.

From what I gather—including a visit to an Apple store—this is a catastrophic failure that necessitates replacement of the whole keyboard, which seems not worth it. (But: Boo, Apple, for producing a thing that lasted less than four years.) So I’m buying an M3.

But once I get the replacement, I’m willing to fiddle around with the M1. Any suggestions for fixing it myself?

A great troubleshooting and DIY repair resource is iFixit. I’ve used their guides and tools for several years now. And a big vote of confidence, in my view, is that Patagonia made them its official source of repair instructions.
