Just wanted to post this tonight before hitting the hay here in the EU.
We have an iPhone 6 or 7 that was working fine recently, possibly with a replacement battery from iFixit, and it has gone from 87% to unresponsive within an hour. It’s been on various chargers and a Mac for a couple hours since and is still not responding.
I found a few Apple Discussions with links to Support page steps to leave it plugged in overnight then try some force restarts and such while plugged in. No brain to do any more tonight so just wanted to ask if anyone has seen symptoms like this and can comment on if the charging/restart steps were successful or not, or other steps to try. Were hoping to make a couple of important calls with it tomorrow.
Might be able to swap the SIM to another iphone in the house for those calls but we did want to keep using that one. Many thanks.
Sounds like it may be time for a second replacement battery.
Hopefully, the suggestions you already found will be enough to get it running, at least while plugged in to a power brick, but the symptom does sound like an almost-dead battery.
After an overnight on a generic USB wall socket the iPhone had a Taptic response on Home Button but nothing else.
Went to the Force restart page at Apple Support and tried couple of sets of instructions for various models/OSes, as I wasn’t sure what it was. The OS 14 instructions for an SE 2 worked!
it’s charged to 97% and I backed it up immediately to the Mac, and screenshot its About info, saved some notes about it all and the screenshots in KeePassXC. It’s indicated as an SE on iOS 16.6 but the Force Restart page for that OS indicates 1st Gen SEs cannot run 16, so it must be a 2nd Gen (hence the Topic Title change).
