iPadOS 26.2 TidBITS Talk site notes

Two things noted today while logging in to talk.tidbits.com:

  1. Entering username, an email, the keyboard “.” didn’t pop up url extensions like com org etc. as it sometimes does on pad/phone OS; maybe not worth the time troubling with or maybe intentional

  2. Last night I went to the site in Firefox and in Share > Add to Home Screen, an icon was created with the letter L (first letter of page name “Latest” I suppose) on a black background instead of the TB logo. After visiting the site thru that button it remained so

  3. When I tapped that it opened in a view without a toolbar, search/url field or anything there is a row with gray “ < >” (forget what those are called). Is this view some subset of Safari, or a site as an App? I was expecting Firefox to open. Is there an advantage to having TBT as an App? I am here more or less daily…

These are all probably aspects of Discourse, the underlying software we use for TidBITS Talk. You might research them over on Discourse Meta.
