Anyone on a developer/under the iO/Pad/OS hood level TBTer have a pointer/solution/search keyword to offer for in-App login pages being blank and not working on linked default browser pages? I have seen it on 3 different apps from two providers over the course of about 9 months, tried working with their tech support for months, tried all their suggestions, sent details lists of all device settings, screen videos, none have helped. I’ve given up on them.
Previously I had to fully nuke and restore from scratch my iPads to get the NordVPN login page to work, a multiple hour exercise I tried as a last solution after non-support. Not eager to do this to myself or iPhone again.
I’m not even sure what this is properly called, developers offered not help. My intuition says the problem lies with something I have turned off in some setting somewhere, I assumed developers of apps would know what their apps are looking for at this stage and point me to settings that need to be on for it to work.
Anyway, seen this on pre 26 OSes and now iOS 26.5. The NordVPN app login worked on 26.4 but not now after update and restarts:
- iPhone 13 Mini (and I suspect I’ll see it on iPad Mini 6 and iPad Air 4 when I get to them)
- iOS 26.5 updated Sunday
- Signed in or out of Apple Account
- Almost every iCloud thing off
- All Safari Feature Flags off (though I don’t use the app)
- Firefox default browser
- In general I minimize use of iPhone/iPad and limit its connections to services, delete deletable apps
Nord VPN and a European Auto club’s app:
- when tapping their Login button, a new interface slides sidways into view (not even sure what it is but looks same in both apps)
- Icons are across the top and bottom, a progress line under the header area goes about 1/3 across and stops. Nothing is displayed between header and footer
- I try changing options behind the icons available and non change the appearance
- The Safari icon lower right (or maybe ‘default browser icon’ more properly) when tapped brings up Firefox (default) on my device
- A login page appears and offers username field. I enter it and tap to continue
- I get a 400 error and get no further with logging in to the app
- Repeateable across days, wifi, cellular data, changing dns, changing default app temporarily to Safari, changing options in Firefox to most permissable and trackable
I canceled my auto club membership over this and am considering cancelling NordVPN and asking for a refund of the future 10 months I prepaid.
But before that drastic step, I wanted to check in here if anyone has a settings change suggestion That might make the login pages of app providers work.
