Help Needed With Trackpad Settings

I’d really like to finally sort this out but not exactly sure how or if it’s possible without de-selecting Tap-to-click.
It seems that my closely hovering palms have an effect of engaging the track pad so when I am typing a sentence the cursor wanders, rapidly, to all sort of different areas on the “page”
Often times I find that I have written many lines that have been inserted in all sorts of different places

thoughts please … should I be wearing an antistatic wrist band!!! lol

Is this on a MacBook or Magic Keyboard with an iPad? What model/size/year?

MBPro, virtually every model and OS I’ve worked on in ten years

I’d turn off tap-to-click temporarily and see if it solves the problem.

I see this all the time. It’s a side effect of resting your wrist/palm on the keyboard. Not good touch-typing form, but something most people do. When the trackpad is big, you end up touching it, causing these problems.

Some trackpads (like ones I often see on PC laptops) have “wrist rejection” logic that you can enable via its settings apps. For me, however, that’s not sufficient - it helps, but it’s not enough.

I’ve found that for this reason, I always disable all tap gestures on my trackpads. If I have to actually apply pressure (or use an external button, on those trackpads that have separate buttons), then the random clicks don’t happen. The cursor still moves around, but it won’t cause my input focus to change.

Yah, definitely my bad form LOL
Thanks

There’s an option in Accessibility to disable the built-in Trackpad when you have a mouse paired. Might be worth carrying a mouse just for that.
