I used to have a wired Logitech mouse that had a button to switch its scroll wheel hehavior between smooth movement and moving in discrete steps. I usually had it set to discrete steps since I liked the tactile feedback.
I have yet to see a BT mouse—that I’d otherwise be interested in-—offer such switching behavior. And considering how hard it was to find something that ticked only my most important boxes, I’d hesitate to add any more requirements.
The Logitech MX Master 3/3S I mentioned allows for selection between stepped and smooth scrolling for the vertical scroll wheel; the horizontal scroll wheel is not stepped. I can scroll through hundred of lines by flicking my finger, either in stepped or smooth scrolling mode.
Ah, one thing I forgot to mention about my former mouse search and knowledge is that I’m left handed. So something like the Logitech MX Master 3/3S was immediately eliminated from consideration. In general, I’m not a fan of single handed mice (even if they’re made for left handers) as I like to be able to use a mouse in whichever hand is most convenient for the moment.
The Logitech M720 Triathlon is symmetric enough in shape to be usable in either hand and big enough for my hands. I find the side buttons easily usable from either hand. It also has the ability to select from three connections. the M720 has replaced the Microsoft 4600 comfort mouse (wired) for both desktop and laptop use.
I have never switched buttons to ‘lefty’ orientation even on my old wired two-button mice. Changing systems settings is a bother and not convenient or not even possible on systems shared or not my own.
4 of 5 boxes checked. I love my Logitech MX mouse! Meets all your criteria except has a very small USB dongle. Check out their Logitech K750 keyboard. Uses regular house light to recharge. No hassle. Not as elegant as newer models, but zero maintenance. No batteries to change or recharge.
