Desktop Widgets disappearing

In the last week my minimal desktop widgets (Clock, Homekit control of local lights, and date) disappeared from my desktops. I have 3 desktops that I swipe between on my M1 Max MacStudio. When I tried to replace them, they would not go in the usual positions (Left side against the edge of the monitor) and would move to the next slot over. I couldn’t figure out what was going on and the HomeKit control did not have the option of 2 buttons, instead giving me a 4 panel.

This morning the old widgets suddenly appeared. I am now assuming that the reason the “new” widgets could not go in their usual spots is because the system thought there were widgets there already (though they were not visible to me nor did they show up when I went into Edit Widgets mode).

Has anyone else seen this behavior?

And while I am on the subject, is there a clock that will consistently show the second hand? They seem to be there when I place the widget, but when in the Finder, they are gone.

Yes indeed. Here’s the thread I started on this a while back. I’ve had to refer back to it a couple times myself, since I failed to document the solution locally (fixed now).

I use World Clock in the four clocks configuration. Each has a sweep second hand going around constantly.
