Calendar & Maps apps, with their binocular (look around), crash with a location address in 4 iPhones

Hello,

Calendar app keeps crashing with 214 Pereira Dr, Irvine, CA location address in three old iPhones (11 Pro Max, 12 mini, and 13)’ iOS v26.2.1. It takes several seconds for the crash to appear. Can anyone else please repropduce this on their iPhones (please list their models and iOS versions)? Even with a brand new event on ANY date, all day, specific times, etc. Just that address, save, and test by waiting several seconds to see if Calendar app crashes. Even opening the map from Calendar’s location would crash seconds later. Is this a bug in Calendar app? Very annoying! :(

Thank you for reading and hopefully answering soon. :)

(I am reading and answering)

Looks like that address is on a university campus (and was the scene of a crime in 2022). Maybe old versions of Contacts and Maps have trouble handling “internal” addresses that were not established by a city, county, or national government for some reason, similar to how dialing 411 won’t get you phone extensions inside a company (800.555.1212 versus 800.555.1212, x123).

Yes, but does your Calendar app crash several seconds on this event with this location address? I don’t see your maps at the bottom in yours.

No crashes. The screenshot was from my Mac, but the map does show on Contacts in iOS. Looks like an address on the campus of UCI.

Which iPhone model was yours?

Frak me. I messed up. I meant to say CALENDAR, not Contacts. Sorry guys. I revised my posts.

Anyways, if I turn off iPhone’s Internet connections (no wifi and cell data) then no crashes. I noticed no binocular view so I re-enabled its wifi (no cell data) to get it back, then it crashed. So, I went back to iOS’ Maps directly and then viewed this locations with its binocular. No crashes until I started moving it around at this location.

Yes. I was able to create a test entry on my Calendar and view it in list view, but if I go into the entry it crashes the Calendar app after a few seconds. iPhone 17 Pro, iOS 26.2.1

Thanks for confirming this crash, Jimblock! It looks like a bug. Let’s go leave bug reports to Apple about this.

The original email requesting tests made the suspect address “clickable” in iPadOS Apple mail. I clicked it, and went to Apple Maps, which then crashed!

yes, same on my iPhone 16 (26.3) if I open that address in Maps.

I am unclear what you mean about creating a calendar entry to cause this crash. Is it that you add an event then add that address to the “Location” field? If so, that didn’t cause my Calendar to crash.

–Edit, oops, spoke too soon. It did cause a crash! Weird.

I was asking all over even on newsgroups. ;-) Apple’s forum mods removed the address. :(

When you first posted, I remembered reading about a similar bug some time ago. But search engines and Perplexity weren’t returning any results (I did find out about the crime at the location and see your thread on Apple Support Discussions, ha). Anyway, the source finally came to me…MacRumors. Maybe your Calendar problem has a related or similar cause.

So, others and I e-mailed maps_escalations@apple.com about this crash in iPhones’ iOS Maps app’s Look Around (binoculars) view weeks ago. I never got any human answers. It still crashes in my new iPhone 17’s iOS v26.3.1 Maps app. I followed up for a status update. Maybe other users need to report this issue too. :P
