I noticed my iPhone 12 mini’s updated iOS v18.4’s Photos app doesn’t show my old and recent photos’ geolocations anymore when viewing each image. If I show Maps collection, then I do see them. Why can’t I view their map location when I view one photo? It used to show up before. Did v18.4 break this feature or something? I already tried rebooting my iPhone too. Also, I am not using iCloud for photos.
Thank you for reading and hopefully answering soon. :)
On my iPhone 16 Pro, I place a finger on the photo and slide it toward the top of the phone; the map and other information appear. To hide them and see the full image, reverse the process.
Nope to scroll up method on the photo. I only see my iPhone 12 mini model, HEIF, format, MP, camera, file size, dimension size, live video icon, album if it is in one, etc. Just no map location. Even pressing … icon to do adjust location doesn’t show its location! I wonder if something broke in my 12 mini. Maybe I accident hid this map location screen somehow? :(
Here’s a quick way to see in the photo metadata includes a location:
Select a photo and tap the Share button. If the location is in the metadata, a note saying ‘Location is included’ will appear. If that phrase is not present, the photo has lost its location metadata.
Thanks for the tip. I see the “location is included”. Now, why isn’t iPhone’s Photos app not showing the map, with its gelocation data, when I viewing its bottom’s details?
Were the photos taken in an app (say, Messages)? If you don’t have location turned on in settings / privacy & security / location services / [appname] then the camera won’t store the location in the metadata.
Various sources including AirDrop, iPhone 12 mini’s camera, etc. I did check the privacy & security / location services. Also, I tried disabling AdGuard Pro.
Long press the photos app and tap “Don’t Require Face ID” , close and reopen app, now your photos should show location data on map when you swipe up on a photo.
Hope this helps! …"
It sounds like a bug to me so I asked this user and others to report it to Apple. I will report it too soon.
