Today, 1Password invited me to activate “A native macOS AutoFill Experience”. I did not turn it on. I also do not use the Safari extension – paranoid.
However, Reddit has a discussion about it which includes comments from a 1Password representative:

I just updated 1Password. Did not read what’s new. Then a bit later I went to a website that I was logged out from, and to my great surprise, a message popped up and disappeared before I could read it, and in the same second, the website did a reset, and I was logged in. I did not even see the login page. It was nice, but I hope I get asked on the websites where I have several logins registered.

That actually sounds like a useful interface feature, though I am not a current 1Password user.
Your decision to avoid activating the feature did make me think of my increasing reluctance to activate most changes. It seems increasingly rare for new experiences to be better experiences. It’s an uncomfortable position for me; I’ve always been an early adopter of new tech, and my bias still is very much to try new things. Somewhere along the way, the tradeoff between “new” and “better” no longer feels favorable to me for most established products.

I found the Safari extension to be kind of flaky, so I’m glad that AgileBits finally implemented this feature. One thing I didn’t like about the Safari extension was that unlocking a passkey required only clicking a button. With macOS Autofill, it prompts me to use Touch ID instead.

It’s a very nice & convenient addition to the app that I have been using since 2007.

The new experience works across MacOS apps rather than requiring plug-ins for each one. So far the only thing I’ve had to get used to is looking up at the top of my (large) screen for a 1Password log-in prompt. It is much smoother than the one we’ve been using for many years.
