TidBITS Talk blank page?

I think this just started yesterday (Friday), possibly the day before. I have a bookmark “https://talk.tidbits.com/”. When I click it, I get a completely blank white page, yet I notice that the content is there (view source, link addresses appear at the bottom of the window as I move my mouse around). If I go to the main TidBITS page, then click the Talk link from there, the content returns; yet, the URL appears to be the same as my bookmark. I’m using the Arc browser. Anyone else seen this?

[Update: This also happens when I click another tab in Arc, and then click on the TidBITS Talk tab I had just been using. Starting to smell like an Arc issue.]

That’s weird in general. Have you tried relaunching Arc or restarting your Mac?

Right. That fixed it. I probably posted too soon…at first I thought it might be a site issue. It is odd that TidBITS Talk was the only site affected. Thanks.

[Update: OK, now the gremlins are playing with me. After working for 24 hours, the problem has returned. Off to zap my TidBITS Talk-related cache and cookies.]

Has been happening to me for years and I’m guessing it’s some sort of OS rendering glitch. Completely random and infrequent which makes troubleshooting well nigh impossible in my case.

Browser and hardware seem to be irrelevant. I’ve had it using Safari and Firefox, on my home computer, on my work computer and on iPad. I’ve had it with sites I’ve never visited before so there’s no cache, as well as with sites/pages I regularly visit.

Browser restart usually fixes it, sometimes computer restart is required.

Wow, sounds like yours is a bigger problem that what I’m seeing.

I’m a bit frustrated with Arc right now since it seems, unlike Safari, you can’t clear cache/cookies/history on a site-by-site basis. It appears to be all or nothing. :grimacing:

So at this point, the irritation that will be caused by clearing everything would likely be more than the irritation of having to go back to the TidBITS home page, and then to Talk.

I have encountered similar issues with some websites in Safari when using iCloud Private Relay.

When that happens, I tap View>‘Reload and Show IP Address’, which temporarily bypasses iCloud Private Relay for that website. If it happens on multiple websites, I temporarily disable iCloud Private Relay in System Settings > Apple ID.

Good thing to check, for sure. I’m not using Private Relay, so not the issue here. And this gremlin seems to be affecting only the TidBITS Talk site, and only sometimes. Sigh. I guess I could try Safari to see if the problem follows the site or the browser (using Arc right now).

Yeah, definitely worth trying more variables to see if something points to the culprit.

So just to (hopefully) close the loop on this, the problem seems to have just “gone away”. Haven’t seen this in the last week or so. There have been one or two Arc updates over that time, so perhaps that is the reason.
