TidBITS-appropriate Black Friday 2025 deals

I’m not a big fan of Black Friday or the capitalist feeding frenzy it ignites, but it’s a big win for many indie developers and small companies, and users can save significant money. If you’ve run across any Black Friday deals that you think TidBITS readers would appreciate—they don’t have to be Apple-specific, but should at least be the sort of tech or accessories that TidBITS might cover—feel free to share them here.

As with last year, @mjtsai has put his apps, SpamSieve, EagleFiler, and DropDMG, on a 25%-off sale for Black Friday, and he’s also collected a slew of other deals.

I’ve read this excellent biography more than a few times over the years, and it never disappoints:

Steve Jobs Hardcover – Big Book, October 24, 2011
by Walter Isaacson (Author)

Flighty Pro has three months free for the annual subscription which is down to 3.99 a month. Not listed on their site but in app. If you’re a frequent flier, as I am, it is very useful.

Just FYI…everything after the “ref” in that URL is a tracking code. You only need this part:

Not available for existing subscribers. Too bad..l recently renewed for a year.

45% off all plans for Elements, Realmac’s new website builder. I’ve come via their beta program, best beta experience I’ve had, so responsive and open.

OWC clearance sale on Apple and third-party SSDs

Great bundle of apps, I own 7 of them already, for $76.

For those of you who don’t care about Apple Intelligence, $274 for the current-gen iPad 128GB sounds like quite a steal to me. They have (at least right now) all the colors and other storage/wifi options too.

And if anybody wants to upgrade their old USB-C SSD enclosure to something modern with more oomph, now you can get a TB/USB4 enclosure for that NVMe flash stick for just $35 (with coupon). Reminder: unlike USB3, TB/USB4-attached storage gets both SMART and TRIM support on Macs.

50% off all BZG apps, like Quip, Unite, and Coherence.

Just want to add that offer includes Downie, a great video downloading utility from a supportive and engaged developer. I’ve used it for several years now and like it a lot.

Trivia: Apple almost unintentionally killed off the developer in 2020.

To those interested in upgrading their wifi network, Ubiquiti has chopped $50 off the price of its Dream Router 7 for Black Friday. At $229, it’s the best deal for the router I’ve found so far. From what I’ve read, it can be used to create a mesh network with the Unifi Express 7.

Excellent you remind us of routers!

I noticed both Wirecutter and PCMag’s top picks are both heavily discounted right now.

The TP-Link AXE5400 Wifi 6E for $96 (after coupon) is PCMag’s while Wirecutter likes the TP-Link Archer BE550 Wifi 7 as upgrade pick which is just $150 (also after coupon) right now.

For those who might be curious, these are the 12 apps in the Black Friday Mac Apps Collection

CleanShot X, Bike Outliner, Downie 4, DaisyDisk, PopChar, Default Folder X, Keysmith, Marked 2, HoudahSpot 6, Workspaces, Unclutter, ForkLift 4.
