Tahoe Safari Tab Groups stay open in sidebar

(Duplicated from here for exposure. Hope that’s ok!)

Here’s one that’s been bothering me in Safari since upgrading to Tahoe:

When you have the sidebar open showing “Tab Groups”, the current group opens up as if you had clicked the disclosure triangle. I kind of understand this, but don’t like it — I’ve got the tabs open on the window’s top tab bar itself, so I don’t need to see them all on the side, too.

But the worse part is: the group in the sidebar stays “disclosed” even when I click to a new tab group!

This seems so wrong that I thought it might be a local bug — but I see it on two different machines. Is it just me? Or am I missing a setting? I couldn’t find one.

(And this doesn’t happen on iPadOS 26…)

@defjaf It’s not just you! :grinning: It seems it is the default. (And I don’t think there is a setting to change the default). Initially I was “confused” by the groups in the side panel staying open. But now I think I prefer it that way, after a week or so of heavy use (and understanding its behaviour).
It is a bit like what happens in a Finder window in List View with triangles (or arrow heads) pointing down when the folder is “open” and pointing to the right when the folder is “closed”.
What “confused” me with Safari Group Tabs behaviour was that I use a web based database program that has a similar sidebar for its “headings” of sections. With that program once you click on another “heading” the previous expanded selection automatically collapses closed.
Sometimes I appreciate that action, other times I don’t. But either action is just a quick click to change.
And I do like how Apple’s Tab Groups also goes (replicates) across all my devices via iCloud. :grinning:
