When I ‘share’ an article from a PRINT magazine or newspaper it is easy. I cut it out and pass it to members of my household.
I PAY for digital subscriptions to many newspapers, magazines, etc.
When I forward an article to my wife she cannot access it. I have to log in to the site on her device with my email address. There are no ‘saved’ passwords to help me. It is tedious. And every so many days the publication forces another “log in”.
Is there an easier way to share access to subscriptions?
Some publications have a “Gift” link where you can send an article to your wife for free. It’s often inconspicuous for obvious reasons but it’s often there.
The other thing you can do is hit the Share button but instead of just sending a link you click the options button and can attach a pdf of the article (the reader version of the pdf is preferable. Much smaller).
If the site supports Reader Mode and you share that via email, it will include the full article as shown in Reader. I do that often even on non-paywalled sites so the recipient doesn’t have to bother looking up the article.
If these are online newspapers or subscriptions, she can just use your ID and password and get into them free. May be a little trickier if you are using Apple Sign In. I have not found a way to share newsletters, such as Substack, which are tied to the device or something.
Would you share a bit more detail? What is being shared when “you share that via email”? A PDF? A link? I’m just barely familiar with Reader Mode; I selected it for this TidBITS Talk article (in Firefox) and the URL did not seem to change, which makes me think the sharing is a PDF rather than a URL Thanks for any insight.
