ScanSnap S1300 glitchy in MacOS 26.2

Hmm, okay, my ScanSnap S1300 finally isn’t working.

Specifically, after the first page finishes scanning, ScanSnap Manager crashes (and doesn’t save any documents), bringing up the screen to report crashes. I have tried this on two Macs running macOS 26.2, and tried different documents. They all behave the same.

I’m not sure when it worked last, but I think it was within the last month. Did macOS 26.2 break things?

I tried VueScan and ExactScan Pro, and they both work (in trial mode, with watermarks). Specifically, they allow me to scan from my ScanSnap S1300, bypassing ScanSnap Manager. So it’s clearly a software issue. But before I shell out the money for one of them (probably the latter), I thought it would be nice to reinstall (the no longer supported) ScanSnap Manager, in case the installation just became corrected, but I can’t find it available anywhere. Does anyone have a copy of the latest installer? (Not to be confused with ScanSnap Home).

Hello Dave K, I think it did. I downloaded and installed Home although it was not intended for the s1300, hoping like sometimes happen, software developers publish things like that for liability reasons rather than actuality. But this time, I think it was actuality!

Home removed the earlier software, itself didn’t see the s1300 so I tried VueScan Trial Mode, then purchased it, as it works with s1300 and a Brother multifuntion machine and it might just work with two older scanners that we like, including one that can hold photo slides. So for our situation it seemed right.

Then, I plugged in the s1300 to my previous main Mac, running Sierra, and Manager/s1300 worked like a champ, as it has for many years.

So I’ll see how it goes, it’s a tad inconvenient to switch Macs just for scanning a couple of documents, but iirc Manager has a bit of automation, like being able to save to networked devices and dropbox and Mail app etc.

Short term I’m just getting use to VueScan. I’m not aware of having an older installer of Manager, and I searched high and low online for it and couldn’t find it. Ricoh has pretty effectively buried it.

Why not use Scansnap Home? It is an adjustment from Manager, but is the current supported Fuji offering, and is free. I switched from Manager to Home a few years ago.

Home is not intended for and doesn’t work with the s1300 scanner. Maybe the s1300i, I don’t remember.

You’re right. Was just about to correct myself after checking here…but you beat me to it. Home does indeed support the S1300i.

Aha! we must have been writing at about the same time… Thanks for caring enough to write!
