Odd wording about "discarding post" when canceling edit

I’ve noticed this before and now just again. It’s not a bug per se, just poor wording.

If you edit one of your posts but then decide not to save your edits, you have two options: Save Edit (obviously not what you want) and Discard. I suppose, as in, discard your edits. So you hit that only to then be asked to confirm if you’d like to “discard your post”. That dialog offers just discard and cancel. Discard is the one you want. But the whole wording is really bad. You’re not truly being asked if you want to discard your post (you don’t and you won’t), but rather if you want to discard your edit.

I’ve noticed that, too. It is confusing, but I guess I’ve gotten used to it.

Agree @simon.

As a workaround, I often will copy the text I enter in forms on various websites, either saving them in a text edit document if it’s something important, or using LaunchBar’s clipboard saving for small stuff. In this example, if I was editing a post here, I’d copy it before clicking Discard just in case it did discard everything.

:+1: Same here. I have this habit of hitting cmd-a cmd-c when filling out online forms. If anything funky happens, at least I’ll have a copy in my clipboard.

I have tried to train myself to do this and too often forget. It is a good habit.

Definitely worth reporting on Discourse Meta as a UI feature request.
