Need 27-inch monitor to use with Mac mini

I’m going to replace my old iMac with a mini, but I want to use it with a 27” screen, which Apple doesn’t make any more. Looking for recommendation for a good brand/model I can use for photo editing and other demanding work.

There’s been a lot of discussion about that on this list. I suggest you search TidBITS Talk for something like ‘27" 5K monitor’ or ‘Monitor for new M4 Mini’.

The first issue to address is whether you’d be satisfied with a 4K monitor, much cheaper, or need the superior resolution of a 5K monitor. That has also been discussed here.

I was looking for 5K and I’ve been very happy with my LG UltraFine 27MD5KLB-B 27" 16:9 5K IPS Monitor which I purchased from B&H Photo when it was on sale for around $800. Their price now is $1150 but still less than the $1600 for the equivalent Apple or Samsung.

Monitor for new M4 Mac mini

Please explain: What “scaling” is and then Why scaling 5K over 27” is better than scaling 4K over the same sized monitor. I have an iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015) that is stuck at macOS 12 Monterey and it’d like to replace it with an M4 Mac mini. I’ve put this off for a long time because i was hoping that Apple would release a bigger iMac, in part because I’m really intimidated by choosing a monitor. For what it’s worth, I also have an 2022 M2 MacBook Air. Thank you.
