Moving the dock

A few years ago I could easily drag the dock from my MacBook to my external display. I changed my office set up and tried this on 26.5. It does not work. What is the trick now?

Interesting! I don’t remember ever being able to drag the dock. James Thomson’s DragThing, yes. The Dock, no.

In Dock Settings, you can set the position of the Dock to left, bottom, or right. It will always appear on the display you’ve designated as your main display.

Have you tried through System Settings->Arrangement-> then dragging the dock ‘bar’ to set the main display? I’d do a screen shot but I’m not connected to an external display right now.

Thank you. I found the setting in System Settings.

If your Dock is on the bottom of the screen, it can be on any screen you wish. Put the mouse pointer on the screen where you want the dock. Drag down off the screen. Keep going until the Dock appears.

I believe, if the Dock is on the left, it will be on the left-most monitor; if on the right, it will be on the right-most monitor.
