Macworld Magazine renewal confusion and frustration

I have been a Macworld subscriber for decades.

I received my renewal notice, with a link to the account management portal in case the details needed to be updated. The problem is, I don’t remember which card is used for the subscription, AND THEIR SITE WILL NOT TELL YOU. It doesn’t even display the last 4 digits of the card on file! So I had no idea if an update was needed. One card did get compromised in two separate instances, but it is difficult to pin down the dates. I would have expected the renewal to fail if they had one of the compromised numbers on file.

They’ll let you download their invoices, but it’s not listed there either.

Imagine my surprise when I received a notice that renewal was successful. But I can’t find the transaction listed for either of my cards.

I opened a ticket via email, using the address listed in the renewal emails and the account management portal. But it’s been a full 7 days, and I have not heard a peep. What should I do?

I am so frustrated that I am strongly considering canceling the subscription.

Has anyone experienced similar frustration with their Macworld subscription lately?

Thanks!

Your banks’ web sites don’t show the transactions?

All of my cards have web pages that show at least the most recent 12 months, and they all will let you download annual statements (listing all transactions for a given year).

Between the two of those, you should be able to search for a line item containing “macworld” or “mac world” or something similar.

If your subscription is via PayPal, then you should be able to pull a transaction history from that web site, which will tell you what card was used to complete the transaction.

I didn’t even know MacWorld was still published! I stopped getting it 10 years ago.

Macworld is included with Apple News for anyone that subscribes to that and may not realize it.

Side note, I had to double check, but interestingly they don’t capitalize the “W” in Macworld.

Ah, that is why since I don’t get Apple News.

As for the “MacWorld” vs “Macworld” it was due to FoH as that is how I remembered it. I went back and checked my payment records and found the magazine payments have the capital W but those for the Expo has lower case w.

The same old MacWorld has continuously remained available and I get it every month. They just stopped issuing the paper magazine and went to digital only. Available on most magazine sales websites and there is even a MacWorld website that sells subscription directly.

OK. I don’t do digital magazines. I even cancelled a 50+ year membership in an organization because they went digital with their publications. The ONLY digital periodical I get is the newspaper from where I lived in California for 30+ years.

I’m just the opposite. If I can do it digitally, I’ll get rid of the paper. Because I’ve had some email accounts hacked, I insist on receiving my usual bills digitally. The great thing about subscribing to digital magazines and newsletters is that I can read them on computers, tablets, and phones and switch between them with almost no friction.

Even better, they effectively take up zero cubic inches.

Thanks, @Shamino

That is correct. Neither bank shows a transaction for Macworld, or even in the dollar amount of the transaction. I’ve run every search possible.

I did eventually find out which card the renewal processed on last year through downloading PDF statements, but there is no transaction showing this year. It was not the card affected by the breaches. Both banks are set to send email alerts for all transactions. Nothing received there, either.

Still no response to my Zendesk ticket. And I did receive the autoresponse when the ticket was opened, so I know the ticket itself is working. All very strange, and not very confidence inspiring.
