macOS bugs galore? Spotlight window select broken

If you enter into Spotlight search the name of a doc, you will most likely be presented with that doc rising to the top of the list from where you can select it an open it. All gravy. However, if that doc happens to already be open when you search for its name, Spotlight attempts to assist by pushing an entry for that window up to the top of the results list. That entry will show a window icon instead of a the doc’s icon (as in the regular search case) and on the second line, rather than doc type/size/date/path, it will just say “Window”. The idea is obviously to allow users to employ Spotlight to locate a window buried deep under a lot of other windows and GUI clutter.

Only problem I have with that: it never works. Even for docs that I can select and launch just fine through Spotlight, if I select the window entry, instead of the window being brought to the foreground, nothing happens. And then I get an error notification from Shortcuts saying that “Activate Tab” could not be run because of “internal error”. WTH?

Is this a Shortcut bundled with Tahoe (or later)? Does it show up as an editable shortcut in the Shortcuts app?

In my old Sequoia version of Spotlight, it just lists the file itself. Which is fine, because opening a file (whether from the Finder or from Spotlight) causes the window to become active.

The error message almost makes it sound like it’s not finding something that should be bundled with Tahoe. I have never used Shortcuts. When I go in there it lists not a single shortcut available. Neither bundled nor downloaded. Tried the search field in the Gallery to see if this was something I could download to make the error go away, but whatever I enter in that search field, no results. So search is broken in there too. Hey, bonus points. Found just one more bug.

I take it you’re on Tahoe? I can’t reproduce that on Golden Gate, fwiw. I have the “Interview Questionaire” [sic] document open in MS Word. I don’t see a “Window” option listed when I invoke Spotlight.

Yep, this is on Tahoe. Appears almost like Golden Gate fixed it by dropping the (supposed) functionality.
