How to get my old Epson printer working on Sonoma

I have an Epson Workforce 635 (often recognized as a 630) inkjet printer (combo with fax and scanner), probably about 10 years old. I am setting up a Mac mini M2 running Sonoma 14.6.1. I tried the printer drivers that Apple offers when you set up a printer (they offer 9-pin and 24-pin, whatever that means), but neither works at all. The Mac recognizes the printer, but it does nothing when you attempt to use it. I deleted those. I then installed the Epson driver that they offer for that model used on Sonoma. The printer reacts when I attempt to print, but it just feeds a sheet of paper without printing anything on it. (I appreciate its attempt to save ink, but it’s not helpful.) I’ve been using Gutenprint on my old iMac, which has worked fine through Ventura, but I see it is no longer supported and hasn’t been updated in ages. The mini is pretty clean because I haven’t installed much on it. I rebooted both the printer and the mini, with no change. Any ideas?

Try “Reset Printing System” - right-click on the printer in System Settings > Printers and Scanners.

Thank you! That worked. I would never have thought of right-clicking on the printer name.
