I’m looking at getting a new MacBook Pro M5 Max to replace my 5-year-old M1 Max. I’ve seen reports that a few people have had problems during upgrade to the M5, just wondering how widespread those problems are. It looks like the 16-inch M5 Max has fewer problems than the smaller 14-inch model. As of 25 Mar 2026, MacRumors shows it as a good buy. For TidBITS users who recently bought a MacBook M5, how’s it working out for you? Any lingering problems?
I got the MBP M5 Pro. You can read my initial reaction here. Since then it has performed flawlessly. Unfortunately, I’m already used to how much faster it is compared to my M1 Pro.
