What is the best way to stop Reels from appearing in my Facebook Feed? I mostly use my MacBook Air and MacBook Mini. When I searched this question most of the responses were for mobile devices. I rarely use Facebook on my mobile devices.
It’s not exactly a solution, but I often use a “friends only” link to view Facebook on my laptop. Aside from substantially reduced advertisements, it only shows activity from people you’ve friended and pages that you follow.
By showing reels only from friends and followed pages, it dramatically cuts down on the number of reels that appear in your feed. For an extra bit of sanity, I also disabled auto-playing video in Safari.
I saved the link as a Bookmark and put it in Safari’s “Favorites Bar” for easy access. This is the link:
https://www.facebook.com/?filter=friends&sk=h_chr
If you use a Chromium-based browser, the ESUIT | AD Blocker for Facebook™ extension effectively blocks reels and a whole lot of other crud. I wouldn’t use Facebook without it. (Actually, I’d prefer not to use Facebook at all, but I’ve got too many distant friends and relatives to keep up with any other way.)
