Sonny Software has released Bookends 15.4.2, introducing a new Bookends MCP server that enables you to use natural language prompts to perform complex tasks. This allows compatible AI assistants to fetch information from your libraries and control Bookends’ actions (such as importing/editing references, creating groups and folders, and downloading and annotating PDFs). The reference management tool makes many improvements in existing AppleScript capabilities (as well as adds new ones), allows temporarily expanding collapsed fields in the edit pane, adds a new formatting option that removes a comma after titles ending in ? or !, adds the capability of speaking text in attached PDFs, and fixes a bug in the DOCX scan that could result in superscripted citations in footnotes.
