Apple TV+ Rebranded to Just Apple TV

For me, it’s pretty basic. I can’t count how many times I have said something like: I recommend that you get an Apple TV (box). And then, if it’s a non-tech-informed user, I spend the next 15 minutes explaining the difference between Apple TV (the hardware box) vs. the Apple TV app (on their phone and Mac) and the Apple TV+ streaming service (where you go watch Ted Lasso and Slow Horses etc.). And at least half the time, I’m pretty sure they never fully understand the distinctions.

Yes, you can access Apple TV+ from within the Apple TV app on your Apple TV hardware box. You can also access a similarly-functioning Apple TV app on your iPhone. But the Apple TV+ app that may be built into your smart TV is different — as it is just the streaming service. And no, you don’t need the Apple TV hardware box at all, if you just want the streaming service, And on and on and on.

Frankly, I view it as the worst naming decision Apple has ever done. And eliminating the + only seems to make things more confusing to have to explain.

Apple just calls it the iMac.

When did Apple announce the release of a NEW iMac within the last 60 days? I haven’t heard any thing about an upcoming iMac release. You must have not completely read my post so I’ll recap:

The CURRENT iMac is roughly the 31st model even though its official model name (shown in “About This Mac”) is “iMac (24-inch, 2024)”. I surmised the possibility that with Apple going to a year number naming system the NEXT model iMac COULD be called the “iMac 27”.

So please show us the official name that will appear in “About This Mac” in the NEXT model iMac released will just be “iMac” as you firmly stated.

The name “iTunes” should NEVER have been abandoned by Apple.

What they REALLY need to name change are the yearly new iPhones. How long do they think that putting numbers after the word is going to be viable??

:joy::rofl: that remark made me laugh, coming from someone with the name bjbear71 (sorry, no offense intended)

How is that related to my comment?? I’ve had my user name & email address a VERY long time and they don’t change, let alone every year the way Apple does the iPhone name.

I believe they should have done the same thing as the iMac, iPad, and every other product they make: just refer to a specific model BY YEAR. Simple.

Instead, I’ll firmly give you Apple’s page about the computer:

Note the URL. Note also that on the page, the computer is described as “iMac” throughout. Note finally that the trademark for the computer is just “iMac.” Copyright and trademarks - Apple Support

They’ve been pretty consistent and I doubt that’s going to change.

Well they WERE also pretty consistent with their OS dates until July 2025, so it is possible they might change hardware nomenclature to reflect a “year”. It will be interesting to see what happens.
