This is a long overdue message to say how much we appreciate your writing, ACE.
The most important element in all communication is clarity. It doesn’t matter if you’re the first with the story, most accurate, most authoritative, or anything else. If your audience can’t understand you, nothing else matters.
Your posts are clear, structured, carefully edited, succinct — with just a dash of spice.
I often grumble, “I wish I could write like that.”

After I left my software testing job at Adobe I went to the UW for some additional training and became a technical editor. Adam is the rare writer who can write with an editor’s eye. His posts meet all the benchmarks for clarity, concision, and topic focus; their subjects are helpful and interesting, and mirabile dictu, they somehow always sound like him! Long may you write, Adam!
I wrote something similar many, many years ago. Probably on the record somewhere. I think I suggested Adam deserved a Pulitzer.

(Oh jeez, somehow I didn’t see this thread until now. I try to read everything, but if I miss a day or two, Discourse will sometimes fail to show me completely new topics in the “New & Unread Topics” list at the bottom of each topic, which is how I generally work my way through. The Unseen link on the main page works perfectly, but I have to remember to look at that every so often to see what might have slipped past me.)
Thanks so much for the kind words! I imagine that I’m not alone in wishing I could write more engagingly or more concisely, so I do appreciate hearing that I may be more critical of my writing than most people reading it.
