We have rolled out our new Volvo Car UX to millions of customers

Millions of Volvo owners that have cars with Android infotainment systems have had a major UI update without being asked. Glad my car is too old to “qualify”!

Glad my car is too old to “qualify”!

Me too. This is the biggest reason why I was never excited about an Apple car or about CarPlay Ultra - I don’t want the UI of my cars changing ever. I just want things to stay the same for the life of the car so after the first few weeks of acclimation I don’t have to think about it anymore.

Regardless of the merit of the update, I’d be absolutely furious.

FWIW, Volvo is owned by the Geeley Group, which is a Chinese company. Although it is a company, not the Chinese government, the rules in China are different. China is a country with cameras that have facial recognition on every corner.

As is the UK. But I’m not going to turn down a McLaren or Rolls-Royce if I’m offered one.

I am also concerned that forced changes to the user interface is a driver distraction issue. If menus change the poor driver has to work out where to tap the screen to locate the desired function - resulting in a longer time of eyes off the road! Not really what Volvo became famous for.
