VMware Fusion 13.6.1

VMware has issued VMware Fusion 13.6.1 with a few tweaky yet important updates to the virtualization package. The release addresses a failure to install Windows 11 24H2 virtual machine through the Get Windows from Microsoft option (which returned a blank screen), ensures Windows 11 24H2 is recognized when creating a new virtual machine from an ISO image file, fixes a bug that randomly shut down virtual machines on a VoiceOver-enabled Mac running macOS 14 Sonoma and later, and resolves a corruption error when importing a Boot Camp partition or creating a virtual machine based on a Boot Camp partition. (Free/$149.99/$199.99 new, free update, release notes, macOS 13+)

For many months I have found Broadcom, who purchase VMware impossible to deal with when it came to download issues. Even a physical visit to their corporate headquarters yielded no results. Many other users have also indicated horrible experiences with Broadcom. So, if you are successful with getting their website to work for you, congratulations. If not, do not expect to receive any assistance from Broadcom. Luckly I am able to keep up to date by the update capability option in the App. Otherwise, I would be out of luck. FYI: the ‘new’ company that VMware that Broadcom has migrated the product to has the same physical address as the Broadcom campus. Seems like a shell game to me.

Update: Wonders will never cease: Having not being able to download for months due to being blocked as not eligible and support attempts being ignored, after entering the above I decided to try it again just for laughs. Using thje links in the article sent me into circles on the Broadcom site for at least 30 minutes. Finally in frustration I did a browser search for ‘VMware Fusion’ that took me to a different site with links to download Fusion from guess who? Broadcom! After clicking the agree boxes and attempting download it took me to a page I had never seen before to enter my home address and after doing that back to the download site again. Then to my amazement it allowed me to download the latest version. Hopefully documenting this experience will help others who have had nothing but frustration in accessing the Broadcom site in an attempt to get the App.

There’s a 13.6.2 update available as of 12/17/24.
