If you update (not upgrade) Tapbots’ Pastebot (v2) app for MacOS v2, be sure that you know your license code before updating to v2.4.8: the update will wipe out your license code! There is an upgrade to Pastebot (v3) app which is by subscription, but you’ll only get the upgrade discount if you have your old license number. It’s a Catch-22!
I chose to not carry over my clipboards, but it did carry them over to v3 anyway. No biggie, but irksome.
Not sure what Pastebot does but macOS Tahoe has introduced clipboard history - making several copy/paste apps somewhat redundant.
(I have just “upgraded” to Tahoe and have been reading Take Control of Tahoe which has an excellent description of this feature).
As Take Control of Tahoe states:
Lest you think your favorite third-party clipboard utility has been “Sherlocked” by this new feature, however, keep in mind that Spotlight’s version of clipboard history is extremely limited. Spotlight can’t do any of the following, which are possible in many third-party clipboard tools:
Keep track of multiple clipboards at the same time.
- Edit the information on a clipboard.
- Maintain clipboard histories for longer than a week, even across restarts.
- Manipulate clipboard data either before it’s pasted or in the process (for example, changing text styles, performing a find-and-replace, or adding boilerplate text).”
@gib should feel free to correct me, but I think that Pastebot does all these things and more.

It does indeed! It’s just that they messed up with the upgrade to v3.

I bought Pastebot on the App Store, so I don’t have a license key. I guess that people who bought it on the App Store are not eligible for a v2 → v3 discount. 
When I saw a link on the Pastebot page referring to an “old Pastebot 2 download” link, I presumed that this download would update any pre-v3 Pastebot, regardless of where it came from, the App Store or Tapbots.
Unfortunately, this .dmg installed v2.4.8 and requires a license key, so no one who bought Pastebot on the App Store should download any version from Tapbot’s website.
Fortunately, a copy of Pastebot (2.4.7) restored from Time Machine seems to be working correctly now, and it even includes all the copies made while I was using 2.4.8 unintentionally.
All’s well that ends well? 
UPDATE August 10, 2026
Pastebot 2 is now available on the App Store, and it installs version 2.4.8, which runs without a license key.
