SoundSource 6.0.2

Originally published at: SoundSource 6.0.2 - TidBITS

Rogue Amoeba has released SoundSource 6.0.2 with “massively faster” device switching thanks to backend optimizations. The recently upgraded audio control utility (see “SoundSource 6.0,” 5 December 2025) now supports custom channel mappings for multi-channel devices, uses a device-specific default icon AirPods Pro 3 and a generic AirPods icon if the model is unclear, prevents distorted audio caused by sample rate changes when Bluetooth devices entered duplex mode, ensures the app’s window height can no longer grow outside of the bounds of the display on which it’s shown, avoids a crash that could occur when the system’s appearance changed between Light and Dark mode, once again correctly saves its current state to disk whenever changes are made, allows the Magic Boost to be turned on or off via a shortcut correctly, allows keyboard shortcut assignments to be cleared properly via the VoiceOver actions menu, and limits nicknames for effects to the visible width of the text field (approximately 25 characters). ($49 new with a 20% discount for TidBITS members, free update for version 6 licenses, $25 upgrade, 51.8 MB, release notes, macOS 15+)

What is use SoundSource mainly for is the EQ function. I have hearing loss and it allows me to EQ audio on anything and everything I listen to. I am sure that you have run across my audio/video situation where the audio is horrible. It works great for my needs.
