For the first time in years, I decided to do our taxes myself, using TurboTax ($20 at Costco) and was pretty pleased. When I ran into a couple of glitches I decided to try their support and plunged into phone tree hell, constantly urged to sign up for costly support services; but when I finally told a robot “I want to talk to a real person!” I got connected with a very helpful person who took plenty of time to work through my problem with me. The second time I navigated to help more easily, and the support person spent over a half hour untangling a knotty problem with me—successfully. So: extremely good free support hidden behind a formidable set of barriers.
