I wondered if anyone else has seen this. Twice this week on my M4 Mac Mini Outlook fails to open. The first sign of trouble is, a new email won’t fill in any contacts and then won’t quit. It will have to be forced quit. After that it won’t open completely and has to be forced quit again.
I then saw the same issue on my M1 MacBook Air. Replacing SQLLite database fixes the issue, but it seems very odd. I wonder if I have an email in there it does not like. Any thoughts would be welcome.
Updated: I added my M365 account to Mail and it started to do the same thing. Messages would not load and it failed to quit. Once I restarted the Mac both apps came back to life.
I have seen this before on Outlook for Windows: an email that would cause Outlook to crash if it was opened, replied to, or forwarded. I think I recovered it via web mail.
I did it again last night and at the same time I had to open an Excel spreadsheet. That opened, but Excel hung. I couldn’t click on anything. It was very odd. It was too late to work on it last night. Overnight Outlook was closed. Once I opened it, it hung, had to force quit. I then rebooted the Mac without doing anything else, both Outlook and Excel were fine. I am still working on it.
I don’t use Outlook but have had the same problem with Excel and Word. The Microsoft website is not very helpful but I tried to reinstall Office 365. That didn’t work as expected but the rebooting does seem to help.
In my case I couldn’t launch Excel or Word until I rebooted
