Yes, the Web version wasn’t a compelling option, especially since I use office for business purposes and don’t want client material on Microsoft’s cloud, wherever that may be.

The storage used for the web apps are going to be your OneDrive storage. Or if your business has SharePoint configured, it could be there.
Whether or not you should trust those locations is of course, not something I will try to argue.

So far – at 1 p.m. Eastern on July 14, 2026 – I am still able to edit and save on Office 2019 V 16.78.3 running on my MacMini 2024 running on Sequoia 15.7.7. Has anybody else tried to see if Office 2019 still runs on their system? I’m curious if this is just a fluke of using an old system or if MS has not shut down Office 2019 effectively.

I was just using Word 2019 yesterday (7/14 US east coast) and it was fine, saved some files a bunch of times. (I was submitting to a journal and had to muck about with weird things that kept showing up in the PDF that the website made but that I had changed in the Word doc, so I had to edit, save, edit, save, a bunch.) Hmm ok technically it’s Word 16.78.3 with a Retail License 2019, so I assume that’s what we have been talking about here. (I have macOS 15.7.3.)

I never thought of Emailchemy, which I bought years ago; it did not turn up in an App Store search so it’s probably still independent. I had to convert some OLM files for a client recently, and used PST Viewer & Converter from the App Store, which seemed to work very well.
By the way, Emailchemy was an Intel-only app until very recently.
Version 15.0 or higher is required to run it without Rosetta on an Apple Silicon Mac.
Did anyone’s Office 19 quit working?
Did you uninstall ALL Office Apps, files and bits BEFORE installing Softmail?
I did not. From my post:
“SoftMall does point out that in some situations, the license installer may not overwrite the previous license properly. For that situation, they provide a link to another installer – actually an uninstaller – that removes all remnants of any versions of Office. When that’s done, you reinstall Office (again directly from Microsoft) and then run the license installer. I had to do this with my second Mac.”
So on my first Mac, it updated fine. On my second Mac, it did not. That’s when I had to use SoftMall’s uninstaller. I never uninstalled things myself. Again, they state you only need to use that IF the update doesn’t work.
My Office 19 still works on Sequoia 15.7.7 – at least Word and Excel, which are all I use.

You might not see any problem for a few weeks.
I think Office (like other apps with product activation), only requires a positive license check once a month. So if it passed on July 12 and started failing on the 13th, you might not see the app switch into unlicensed mode until August 12.
But definitely keep us posted.

My reading of this story is that it only applies to Office 2019, so maybe you’ll be fine.
My Office (2019) still works (July 27) on my desktop, but I finally got a new MacBook (replacing my 11-year-old Intel MacBook!) and I used the Microsoft “your licenses” page to try to download 2019 again, and it appears to have downloaded Office365, and when I tried to run the apps it said my license was not good, so that was not helpful. I may try Office 2024 but am suspecting I will need two licenses of something (one for desktop, one for laptop). (I am in an academic setting, and sometimes I use LaTeX/Overleaf but a lot of the time I just use Word with Zotero for references.)
I mean, is Office 365 not good? Is it like Word 6 was? I am perfectly happy with the Word and Excel and PowerPoint versions that I have (and feel pretty confident about doing the mostly basic things that I do with them). I don’t want the Microsoft cloud, I use Apple and DropBox.
