Yesterday (11/6/2024) I opened my iPad (17.x.x) to a window that said a new agreement for iCloud . Choices were disagree or agree. I clicked on it, hoping it would go away, but another window opened in Settings with the “new agreement”. I read it and nothing jumped out to cause me concern. If I agreed, iCloud would continue to hold and sync my photos, files, etc… If I disagreed, iCloud would do nothing.
So I agreed. I don’’t remember if I had to add my Apple Account Id, but I did have to sign in with the code for my iPad.
So then I checked my iCloud account in Settings, and discovered I had spelled my name wrong (left out the S) for my iCloud email!!! I don’t know how long or when that happened!! So, my savvy technology Friends, is there an easy fix to fix my email in iCloud? Or is this a major action?
That is good news but I would be cautious about changing the primary email. It seems that, in effect, the old email becomes inoperative (gone to meet its maker…) so associated accounts like iTunes, Books and the App Store might be affected, as well as non-Apple accounts.
The first thing to check is whether the old email address can be turned into an alias. My understanding is that you cannot do this for an existing or discontinued email address.
Yep, that is why I have TWO Apple IDs! When iTunes was released, I only had an AOL email address so I had to use it. Later when Dot Mac came out I got a mac dot com email. I wanted to move all my purchase history from the AOL to the Dot Mac email but Apple refused and to this day STILL refuses. So I use the AOL Apple ID just for iTunes, iTunes Store, App Store, and Mac App Store purchases. All my HARDWARE related stuff is on the Dot Mac/Mobile Me/ iClod Apple ID. I don’t want to lose the history attached to either one of them.
