In the last few weeks I have noticed significant lagging with GPS instructions on my car while using CarPlay. As I do not use my phone during these times, I cannot tell if it is something with the iPhone Maps or in CarPlay. I could be approaching an intersection and the display will still show me a block back. This is not just in cities (where problems can occur due to the tall buildings) but on regular drives. I am wondering if anyone else has noticed this recently to determine if it is due to a system problem or something specific to my phone (though I am not sure what that would be).
It seems to eventually catch up and match my driving, but I will have to watch it more closely to figure a pattern. Also, I don’t usually pay attention to the map if I am not following directions, so I will also pay attention if this is both with and without directions but I notice it when using directions and paying attention to my map.
I have had the same phone and car (and cable) for years and this is all new.
To me, this could be related to cellular data connectivity (have you hit a data cap recently or is something going on in your area that would cause network congestion?). Or something might be affecting your GPS satellite connections (weather? solar activity?).
Good idea. I did move from Verizon to Spectrum Verizon a few months ago. I have used 2 Gb of a 30 gb plan, but it does use different priorities of the Verizon cell spectrum, but I have had that plan since March and this just appeared a few weeks ago. Is there an app to check cell service speed? The Spectrum app only checks internet speed through the cable.
There are other apps, of course; perhaps you’ll get some suggestions here. I don’t use Speedtest that often so I’ve never taken a deep look into its privacy and security policies.
