I have lost my patience with Siri so many times and sworn at Siri, that I have finally decided to officially divorce myself from this app.
I tested the Google Pixel 10 Pro and researched its security features to understand how I can limit Google’s access to specific data. As a stockbroker, it’s important for me to keep client information confidential, and based on my findings, I should be able to do that effectively.
Any comments??

I’ve literally given up on Siri for anything other than the most basic commands (Hey siri, call Wife). I don’t swear that much but when I do it’s almost always at Siri — and I go full tilt. The conversation and IQ of ChatGPT is so much better it’s not even close.
I won’t change platforms, I just won’t use it. I’d hate to be starting from scratch with apps and functionality on a different platform. Hopefully they can make some inroads in the near future because at the moment it’s an embarrassment. BTW, feel free to pass along any hot tips for the ASX :)
That’s basically where I am. I’m all-in on almost all of the Apple “ecosystem,” but Siri is such a broken mess that I actively avoid using it. Just reading promises about upcoming HomeKit integrations makes me roll my eyes.
Years ago I had a Pixel phone and I loved it. I would go back if it weren’t for the inconveniences that would impose. My new Apple Watch, which I very much appreciate, depends on the iPhone, and I also loved the way the members of a tour group in Turkey shared pictures every day by airdropping. But that’s how to build brand loyalty, isn’t it? What you can’t achieve via quality, achieve via convenience.
I gave up my iPhone for a Pixel a few years ago, mostly so that I could run GrapheneOS as I had a need for privacy that was beyond what I could get from iOS or stock Android. I found the transition much easier than I had feared, but I think that was largely because (mostly for confidentiality reasons) I had eschewed almost all the cloud-based services that Apple rather aggressively offers, and had given up on Siri long, long ago. I don’t know which, if any, of the freebies Google is offering you would continue to work if you install GrapheneOS, but I have found app compatibility to be quite high. I believe GrapheneOS provides a superior privacy model, though Apple has come a long way since I made the switch.
I don’t think GrapheneOS supports the Pixel 10 Pro yet, though they’ve been remarkably quick to embrace new models.
I never liked Siri so haven’t used it in years and have done fine. I’m about to try out duckduckgo’s ChatGPT as it offers more security and ChatGTP can’t use your information to train on. I’ll either use duckduck.ai or go to duckduckgo in safari and search for it.
On a few occasions, in frustration, I have literally sworn at Siri, including a “hey Siri” prefix. It responded “that’s inappropriate”. I couldn’t help but laugh.
Likewise. It works well for some things, but is useless for most others. Commands that I often use are:
“Hey Siri, call name from contacts on speaker”. To place a call using the speaker. Usually used when driving and the phone is attached to my dashboard.
“… what time is it?”. Usually used when traveling and I wake up in the middle of the night, so I don’t need to go find my watch or the room’s clock.
“… start a timer for interval minutes”. I use this more often than you might think.
“… what’s the weather”. But this doesn’t always report what I want.
Sometimes I get a useless “it’s sunny” or “it’s raining”
Sometimes I get a proper forecast for the day (e.g. “The temperature is 83 degrees, with a high of 95 and a low of 77. Expect a thunderstorm in the afternoon”)
Trying to think of the magic keywords to get the forecast every time I ask has been frustrating.
On my HomePod, I will use it to stop music playing (“Hey Siri, stop the music”) or change the volume (“… increase volume by 10%”). But trying to use it to start playing music never does what I want. It keeps trying to stream from Apple Music (even though I don’t have a subscription) and never plays content from my iPod or my Mac’s Music library (which is shared over the LAN). So I always start playback from the device.
I do have a subscription to Apple Music, and my HomePods still don’t do what I want. Most often this means ignoring songs I do have in my library and playing something else whose title vaguely resembled what I asked for but which I would never, ever listen to by choice.
Also my experience. i ask for a song in my library and it streams it, then often continues with some random choice from Apple Music.
It works fine for something like “play ‘ten years gone’” if you don’t have it in your library, but other than that it’s an annoyingly stubborn combatant to what I actually want.

I gave up on Siri when it first came out. It was too stupid. So were all of the possible substitutes. I either do the searching myself in DuckDuckGo or not at all. Google is apparently a money and data grabbing cheat so I avoid them for everything.
If you’re already using DDG for search, you can access their ChatGPT directly by simply appending !ai to your DDG search query. That sends your query straight to duck.ai which is their frontend to ChatGPT.
I appreciate the frustrations of trying to use Siri for answers to various questions. I’ve taken to using, “Siri, ask ChatGPT, blah blah…” and that works essentially every time. It would be great to see Siri become more capable in task management. For example, “Siri, turn off all lights in 10 minutes” is one of my top requests that it can’t currently do.
I suppose for that to work you either need a ChatGPT app installed or an iPhone ≥16. Here on this iPhone 15 I can do that and then get either a Wikipedia entry or “this is what I found on the web”.
dunno what Siri has to do with iPho, but then I haven’t had an iPho since 3G.
Been using android since then, HTC, then goog when HTC threw in the towel.
Been very happy with the P5, just about to change it’s batt while I wait for the used price of an 8a to drop a teense more. Then the P5 will be the back up.
While I’m def in the Mac camp, a phone is a phone. For under $300, I can get a gently used Pixel. The googsters search is very good, but as I said, haven’t ever used Siri.
Ain’ no way a dropping a G for a dang pho. Got to leave $ in the budget for Knappogue 16 twin, El Tesoro Reposado and proper Porter not flavored with citrus and other giggly feh.
I drive a lot for work and rely on Siri to dictate diary notes and texts.
Recently, I received an SMS from Lyndall. Siri read it out correctly: “From Lyndall: when will you be arriving?” Then she asked, “Would you like to reply to Lyndall?”
I replied: “Yes. Tell Lyndall my ETA will be five minutes.”
Siri confirmed: “Your message to Linda says: ‘Linda, my etta will be 500.’”
In one attempt, Siri managed to:
• Mispronounce “ETA” as “etta.”
• Change “five minutes” into “500.”
• And even get the recipient’s name wrong — Lyndall became Linda.
