Messages and Apple Maps not integrating with Google Maps?

(I updated title as it didn’t reflect my issue)

So I was invited to Easter Sunday dinner by some close friends. I received directions to their relatives as a google maps share in Messages (you get image of the location, click Open and its open in Google Maps app. Seems my friend uses google maps and not Apple Maps.

I wanted to use Apple Maps as that is the default in my Carplay. So in the Google Maps location I click the “share” icon (square with central up arrow) and and get options like Airdrop, Messages, Mail, etc… but no Apple Maps option. So I select Copy. I paste that into Apple Maps on my phone and … its just google app link, not the Map location. I had to manually enter the location into Apple Maps. Whats the point???

Seems I cannot add App AppleMaps as a choice. However, I can add Waze, and so now, I have added that option in Carplay. Not a big deal, but I was starting to like Apple Maps because of the map 3d View being more informative than Google Maps. And while Waze was my first map adopter, when it was bought out, changes like ads and such, annoyed me. Plus I am seeing that unless you have a 10inch display in your car, there is too much clutter and constriction of space for viewing what is ahead on the map screen. Too much distraction to zoom out or pan. Atleast with my SUV, a Mazda CX5, the touchscreen is finicky and the “jog wheel controller” on the center console takes too many steps to locate a function of the Maps.

So is this Google’s app not letting a competitor Map app? Since Waze is now Google’s, is that why I can add that to Google Maps apps? But not Apple Maps to open as a choice? And Copy in Google Maps app doesn’t work so. With pending news that Apple wants to put more advertising in Maps, I guess I might just fall back on Waze. Thoughts?

I don’t think it is Google being evil but instead Google sharing a link to Google Maps, not the address, assuming that you are going to share it to someone yourself.

I don’t know about CarPlay, but in Google Maps on iOS if you scroll up the bottom part of the map there is eventually an “Address” field - long-press to copy the address - single tap copies some weird thing called “plus code” which doesn’t seem to work in Apple Maps. If this isn’t exposed in CarPlay, you can do it on your phone before you get in the car.

I didn’t know if its Google or Apple, but thanks!
That works. I was able to long press, then Copy or Share option shows. Copied and then pasted into Apple Maps on phone, then connected to my Carplay.
Just seems oblique to do those steps, right? Should just tap the Share icon and send/open/copy in to whatever app.
Thanks Doug!
