macOS Sequoia vs iCloud Drive

Why does iCloud Drive have trouble syncing? If I wait long enough, it does sync, but “long enough” is sometimes several minutes.

On a MacBook Air M3, I took the following screenshot after about two minutes of no change.

On a MacBook Air M1, I took the following screenshot after about two minutes of no change.

The M3 is running 15.7.3; the M1 is running either 15.7.2 or 15.7.3.

Is there some way to “goose” the synchronization?

Nothing definite because no one really knows how iCloud Drive works. But it sure seems like iCloud Drive is designed for an earlier generation of connection speed and computer speed so that it runs everything in the background as a low priority process.

ever since Sonoma 14.5 iCloud Drive is now a File Provider and that seemed to help quite a bit. But I still don’t trust it. I’m using 25 GB of sync.com for $12/year.
