Export all Evernote notes into Apple Notes on my iPad

I had a scare today (6-13-2025)— I couldn’t open Evernote on my iPad. I tried to open it on my MacBook Air and got a “Welcome to Evernote” screen. Went back to my iPad tried various ways and finally got in. I am paid up until July 7th.

That did it for me for Evernote! I want to export All my notes to Notes. Is there a way to do it on my iPad? (I don’t want to try on the MBA, just in case I can’t get back in on the iPad.

On Evernote, I could not find how to select all notes and export them. I know I have done some of this before, but I can’t seem to figure it out today. So I need EXPLICIT directions on the iPad:

Evernote: how to select all notes; how to export

Notes: where are the exported notes and how to import all the notes

Also, I know I have imported some notes from Evernote before So there will be duplicates. Does Notes have a duplicate finder?

Thank you in advance for your help. The accumulation of knowledge here has helped me so many times! You all are my Apple lifelines!

Jane

I don’t think there is a great way to export from Evernote on an iPad beyond going note-by-note. Even on a Mac or PC, it can be a little clunky.

On a Mac or PC, you can export from Evernote 100 notes at a time or by individual notebooks.

This also may be helpful:

I’ve actually been very impressed by how well Bending Spoons has maintained and enhanced Evernotes since acquiring it. It’s one of the few apps that has improved after an acquisition, IMHO. Unfortunately, I may not renew my subscription. Somehow, I lost my legacy pricing, and in my current role, I don’t think I use it often enough to justify the full price.

I did not happen to need Evernote yesterday (6-13). But I did need my Ecobee thermostats, which behaved weirdly until nearly 6 pm. EDT.

There was a major outage on the Google Cloud platform which affected many app providers who use it for data storage and management.

Yes, it is scary. And finding a way to make sure you have alternative access to the information you have stored in Evernote is always a good idea.

I don’t think I’d be running for the exits based on this one incident, though, any more than I would decide to replace my thermostats and cameras after yesterday.

My Evernote subscription expires in a month and I will NOT pay the $129 again! I did last year because I was caught unaware and didn’t have time to export the notes.

Thanks for the links to export.

Does anyone know if NOTES has a duplicate finder?

Last I heard Evernote are still allowing only a maximum of 100 notes exported per day. The legacy version of their app didn’t have that limit, but that app was killed off in March. That’s resulted in some clever hacks from competitors to help people import their Evernote files, like the importer for Notesnook.

That’s not correct. You can select and export 100 notes at a single time, and then select another 100 notes to export immediately after that, and so on, or you can export individual notebooks.

Also, you included a link to Notesnook’s instructions for exporting from OneNote, not Evernote. Notesnook’s Evernote export instructions are essentially the same as Evernote’s regular export instructions.

I ended up exporting all of my Evernote data to DEVONthink about a year or so back. Same thing - they kept raising the price to stupid levels, negatively impacted the functionality I found useful, and added all kinds of extra functionality where I had absolutely no interest. My primary use case has been document storage - scanning paper documents to my storage system, exporting emails and saving things from a browser, etc. At one time I was all-in on Evernote, and even had the cute Evernote branded ScanSnap scanner from Fujitsu as part of my attempt to have a “paperless office”.

I’ve moved to a Doxie Pro scanner, which scans flawlessly into DEVONthink, and the “Save PDF to DEVONthink 3” action from the PDF menu of the native print dialogue on both of my Macs. Works great, and I have a lot more control over the filing of the documents than I had in Evernote.

At the time, I was able to use the -old- Evernote client to export, but I’m not sure that’s still an option. Here’s their blog post that describes the process - you may still be able to request the legacy verson of the client from support.

This did require a Mac - I don’t think it’s possible on an iPad alone.

Today (July 4th) I successfully exported 100 notes from Evernote into Notes. So I went back to Evernote to export 100 more and in a red box I keep getting the words “you can’t export more than 100 notes”. (I tried to get a screenshot but didn’t have enough fingers to press the keys!) I closed Evernote and opened it and still get the same message.

So how do I get past the 100 note warning to export another 100?

I wonder if there is a timing issue, i.e., that you might need to wait a certain amount of time before trying again with a different 100 notes.

If you do the export on a Mac or a PC, you can export entire notebooks instead of just notes. I just did an export that way yesterday, including some notebooks with approximately 200 notes each.

PS. When I cancelled my account, Evernote offered to renew it at a 40% discount if I stayed with them. I may yet reactivate my subscription, especially if I can get a discount.

One of the things I used to love about Evernote was how many versions of the MacOS worked with it. That hasn’t been true for some time, and I have started migrating my important notes to Apple Notes. Doing it note by note.

I just tried to export 100 more messages today --July 5th— and couldn’t. When I SELECT ALL, only those 100 notes are showing – none past that. I looked at the Help and did it all, but still no more notes tan those 100. I sent this note to Evernote Help. see below. I am attaching 2 screen shots of what i see when I SELECT ALL.

I think Evernote is stuck and my renewal is coming up! any suggestions?

Do you use the Notebooks feature? If all of your Notes already are in Notebooks, you can export each Notebook (see Step 5 below).

If not, create a Notebook, and then move your Notes into it. You can export an entire Notebook at once, even if it has more than 100 Notes inside it.

On your Mac:

  1. Create a Notebook using the Menu command File > New Notebook

  2. Select 100 or fewer Notes

  3. Drag the Notes into the new Notebook or move them using the Menu command Note > Move Notes to...

  4. Select another batch of 100 or fewer Notes and repeat Step 3 until all 357 of your Notes have been copied into the new Notebook.

  5. Look for “Notebooks” in the sidebar on the left side of the main Evernote window. Click on it to show all your Notebooks.

  6. Select the new Notebook by right-clicking it or holding the Control button while you click on it. You will see a drop down menu that looks like this:

  7. Choose “Export Notebook”

  8. Choose the ENEX format if you plan to import into Apple Notes.

  9. The resulting file should contain every Note in the Notebook and can be imported into Apple Notes.

If you don’t want to use the Export Notebook method I described in my previous post, you still should be able export 100 Notes at a time. As you mentioned, when you “select all”, it only selects 100 Notes. You need to select 100 or fewer Notes at a time.

For example:

  1. Start at the top of your list of Notes. Click on the first Note to select it.
  2. Scroll down the list a few screens, being careful not to click any Notes while scrolling.
  3. Now press and hold the Shift key and click on a Note. As long as you haven’t moved more than 100 Notes down the list, this will select every Note between the Note you just clicked and the top Note.
  4. Export those Notes.
  5. Next, click on the next Note down from the last Note you clicked.
  6. Scroll down a few more screens, shift-click on another Note, and export those Notes.
  7. Repeat until you have exported all Notes.

The only notes showing are the ones I exported yesterday 1-100. Notes 101, 102, etc… do not show up and the list won’t go any further. So it is stuck on those 100 already exported.

I will try this and see if I can get the rest of my notes exported.

Thanks, Jose.

I should mention that my Evernote account expired last week. I wasn’t sure exactly what that would mean for the Notes and Notebooks I already had created. As far as I can tell, now that I am on a free account, I can access everything I created before the subscription expired, but, as expected, I can’t create new Notebooks or use more than one device. I was able to export data after the subscription expired.

When the subscription expires, and the account is downgraded to a free account, you need to choose one device/method of accessing the account. The interface to do that is a little confusing, but I successfully chose the Mac app as my preferred method.

Good luck!

July 6, 2025 UPDATE

I decided to look in the trash and see if any of my missing notes were there. ALL 387 notes were in the trash! I did NOT do that. So I sorted out the other old 150 notes had put in the trash over the years. I restored my 387 notes and Evernote created a new folder with them in it.

Following @josehill’s directions for Exporting a notebook, I successfully imported all my notes to Apple Notes. I know I have duplicates and when I have time, I’ll sort them.

Thanks for all your help! Now on to my next projects needed help — backing up my iPhone 15, iPad and my Comcast email. I’ll be posting about these shortly.

Again, I rely on this group so much to solve my Apple problems and I appreciate you all!
