Evernote vs other note taking apps

I’ve used Evernote for a very long time but I’m certainly not a pro user. My use is mainly for note taking, archiving notes, my own project management and some document filing. Important to have notes sync between Mac and iPhone with easy note creation on iPhone.

Looking for any advice as to the various app options and/or opinions about Evernote especially now that it is owned by Bending Spoons?

Thank you.

If you’re staying in the Apple ecosystem and need syncing between a Mac and an iPhone, I think most people would suggest trying Apple’s own Notes.app first.

There is an older TidBITS thread where other alternatives were discussed.

It may also be worth searching for alternatives at Alternativeto.net.

I’ve used Evernote since 2010. Bending Spoons has improved it radically in the past two years, in big ways and small. I’ve been seeing notes of grudging admiration recently from former users who are taking a second look.

I’ve been experimenting with Notes as @josehill suggests. I’m amused that the interface for browsing and reading notes superficially resembles Evernote. I’ve been running into a sync issue, though, related somehow to Calendar accounts and entries, and I can’t picture yet how my 12,000 notes would abide in Notes.

Fair play. I’ve long been accustomed to companies ruining apps after acquisitions. My expectations for Bending Spoons were not optimistic, but, indeed, they’ve done a very nice job at maintaining and enhancing Evernote since acquiring it. It’s clear that they are investing real resources into it, and it seems they have a vision for what the platform should be.

Whether the Evernote platform is worth the $10-20/month for users with basic requirements is a different question, but I have decided to renew my eleven-year-old Evernote subscription for another year.
