DEVONtechnologies has updated all three editions of its DEVONagent research software (Lite, Express, and Pro) to version 3.11.11. All three editions remove several Google services and the US Patent Office from search results due to JavaScript blocking third-party access, and address a crash that could occur when closing the preferences while a shortcut control was active. The Pro and Express editions improve support for Bing and add Brave Search and Ecosia, improve compatibility of the DEVONthink Server plugin when using a self-signed certificate, revise the user-agent to enhance compatibility with Bloomberg feeds, and employ better dynamic throttling on Bing and Brave searches to prevent the apps from being detected as “unusual activity.”
DEVONagent Pro updates the See Also inspector to use multiple search engines to improve reliability, improves the appearance of browser tab preview popovers in macOS 15 Sequoia and later, updates several plug-ins (including PubMed, BBC News, Reuters, and World News Network), makes cosmetic improvements to the user interface (such as title bar and text colors), improves HTML parsing and conversion while crawling pages, improves link filtering (especially in Brave Search results), addresses a crash caused by the context menu in Web views when running Sequoia, and fixes a bug that caused RSS and Atom feed articles to only use the first listed author. (All updates are free. DEVONagent Lite, free; DEVONagent Express, $4.95 new; DEVONagent Pro, $49.95 new with a 25% discount for TidBITS members; various sizes; release notes available in the Help menu; macOS 11+)
