Backing up a Home/Homekit configuration

I have been looking into ways to backup my Homekit configuration, without success. A DuckDuckGo search came up with this result:

"Exporting Home Configuration in the Home App on Mac

To export your home configuration in the Home app on Mac, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Home app on your Mac.
  2. Click on the File menu in the top menu bar.
  3. Select Export Home Configuration from the dropdown menu.

This process allows you to create a file that can be used for backup purposes or to share your home configuration with others."

In my case (Tahoe) the File menu has an “Export as” item but it is greyed out. It seems that Apple has not implemented this feature.

There are third-party apps that claim to work but it seems they have severe limitations.

Also restoring a Time Machine backup doesn’t work as the configuration is effectively stored in a local cloud which quickly synchronises all hubs to the latest (accidentally deleted or corrupt?) configuration and overwrites the configuration restored from TM.

I guess I will send Feedback to Apple.
