Archiving Apple Messages conversations

Almost 6 years ago, I posted a topic asking about how to archive Apple Messages chats/conversations, either on my iPhone or Mac. iMazing was suggested a few times, but I don’t believe that it’s available any longer. Is there a better/different solution today?

I want to export the conversations and store them in DEVONthink for posterity.

iMazing is still available. I periodically export Messages from significant others to a pdf to save. I think it will also save in other formats.

I just looked in the App Store and wasn’t able to find it. Perhaps because you already own it, you can still use it. Are you using it on your iPhone or Mac?

This is what I see for iMazing.

Not found in the Apple App store, but at their website

It’s a Mac or Windows app.

I used it last year to extract some message threads / worked just fine.

I see Apple continues to maintain a high standard of app curation in the Apple Store. /sarcasm

For those who are ok with command-line apps, imessage-exporter is a nice open-source tool for this, and installable via Homebrew. I use it to archive my messages to HTML every few months.

You can also select a conversation in the left column and File > Print > as pdf (or other options).

Not pretty, but effective.
