Continuing the discussion from Fig Brings iOS Push Notifications to Discourse Forums:
Apple might finally be caving on allowing push notifications in mobile Safari.
If they do, I’d be willing to bet that it’s because of the legal pressure they are facing on the App Store. The only real reason I can think of that they have hamstrung mobile Safari for the last decade is because they wanted to keep that sweet 30% rolling in on the App Store. And tons of apps would avoid the App Store if there was a way to do so. Allowing web apps to actually work with basic things like notifications might do just that.
